Spinach Dal

Muddpalya/mudpalya/Karnataka dal

Prep time: 5 mins Cooking time: 35 mins



Ingredients

  • 1cup toor dal

  • 3 cups spinach chopped

  • 4-5 green chilies

  • 1/2 cup grated coconut

  • 1 teaspoon mustard

  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin

  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric

  • Salt to taste

  • 1 tablespoon tamarind juice/extract

  • 1/2 cup water

  • 1 tablespoon ghee

 

Instructions

  1. Pressure cook toor dal until soft.

  2. Blend grated coconut, green chilies and a handful of spinach to a smooth paste.

  3. Heat ghee, add mustard and cumin and let it splutter.

  4. Add rest of the chopped spinach and saute until they soften. Add the blended paste and mix.

  5. Add salt, cooked toor dal. Add turmeric, tamarind juice and add 1/2 cup water.

  6. Let it come to a boil before serving.
